Why Spay and Neuter?
Cartagena is home to nearly 400,000 street animals and the population is ever growing. As a way to help combat the overpopulation and contagious illnesses, Cartagena Paws has begun conducting large scale spay and release clinics, in addition to vaccine clinics in and around Cartagena. Spay and Neuter clinics serve two purposes: wide scale vaccination of both pets and strays and spay/neutering of stray animals.
Spay and neuter is the single most effective way to reduce the stray population, and with the help of our generous donors and volunteers, we have successfully spayed over 300 animals!

What we do
During our spay and neuter clinics, we make sure to keep the animals as calm as possible to reduce stress. Our clinics are run by local vets, their staff, and volunteers. The animals that we spay/neuter also receive vaccinations and dewormer. We always release the animals where we found them.
During a vaccination event, we either provide free services to Cartagena locals that cannot afford vaccinations or vaccinate stray animals through capture & release.

How you can help?
We are always looking for volunteer veterinarians, veterinary students, or vet techs to help with our clinics. Our organization operates solely on donations, so we also look for donors who would like to sponsor a clinic, or donate towards our capture and release initiative. Below are a series of options that you can select from if you would like to become a monthly sponsor for our spay and release clinics. Other one time donation options are available on the donate section of our website.
