OliverWhen Oliver’s family left him with their family members they trusted he would be well taken care of. Instead, the family left him tied up to fend for himself.
When Oliver was found, there were maggots overtaking his wound. He was terribly scared, starving, and crying out in pain hoping someone would help him. Despite all the trauma he endured, he was as gentle as can be with us when we came to save him. At the moment, we believe Oliver was attacked by another dog in the neighborhood. The people who were supposed to protect him let him writhe in pain and never got him help. We are still getting more information about Oliver and his condition but he is currently at Mascotas 24 Horas, a veterinary clinic in Cartagena. We are heartbroken to think about how devastating it was for Oliver to lose his family and then go through such a traumatic event with no one to stand by his side. But now, Oliver has a team of supporters who are ready to show him all the love in the world. Please donate to help us heal Oliver’s body, mind, and soul, thank you! Update on Oliver: Oliver is making progress each day! He is eating well since his rescuer/volunteer, Rocio, is making him homemade food each day. She also visits him and gives him so much love. The staff at Mascotas24horas also adore him! When attending to his wound, at first they were scared he would have brain and nerve damage from maggots eating through his skull. Thankfully this was not the case. They did not reach his brain yet. After many cleanings, he is parasite-free and the wound is starting to heal. It will take months of recovery for it to fully close. We received the newest bill for April, which was $975 USD. We anticipate many more procedures in the coming days. |
Amy & her 8 puppies Our volunteers were having some downtime on the island of Tierra Bomba after 4 days of spaying and neutering when they happened upon Amy. Amy was noticeable pregnant and searching for food in the resort's trash cans. After our volunteers offered her some food, she followed them around all day, begging to be rescued. We couldn't resist her lovable attitude and knew we had to take her and her future babies in.
Locals said that Amy has had 7 litters so far in her short life and is constantly harassed by the male dogs in the area. We believe she is due to have her puppies any day now, so there was no time to waste. Update on Amy: We have puppies!!! Amy was rescued in Boca Chica on the island of Tierra Bomba very pregnant. A few days later, she gave birth to 8 puppies! Momma and babies are doing well in Medellin at Tu Fiel Amigo Vet. They will be up for adoption after 8 weeks, but until then they will need a lot of love, attention, and care. Fundraiser Amount: $5000

Boomerang Boomerang was surrendered by his owner at a spay and neuter event in Cartagena, Colombia. He is a senior dog, over 12 years old, with full-body mange and possibly heartworm.
Boomerang's owner knew that he could not care for his conditions and brought him to the event to see how we could help. We knew that neutering him would not be enough and took him under vet care. Currently, we are treating his mange and waiting on the results for heartworm and other parasites. Boomerang is a total sweetheart with a wagging tail and the kindest eyes! We are treating him as a long-term hospice case as we are unsure of the extent of his illnesses but we plan to give him the best life for as long as he chooses to stay with us. Donations are greatly appreciated to help us cover the costs of his care. Update on Boomerang: As you can see from the photo, Boomerang loves his new life! The staff at Tu Fiel Amigo Vet say that he is the most lovable boy with the sweetest eyes. He is constantly seeking attention and wants to be loved constantly. And we are happy to oblige! Boomerang is still suffering from a horrible case of mange that has left him completely hairless. We can't wait to see what he looks like over the months to come and what kind of hair he will have. Thankfully, he does not have heartworm, though he does have treatable tick diseases. Keep strong little Boomerang and you will return to health soon! |

Silvio Silvio was found wandering the streets of Cartagena, Colombia by us while doing a spay and neuter event. He could barely walk and was covered in horrible mange. We knew that he would die if he continued on the streets like this, either from illness or the carelessness of the humans.
When taken to the vet, it was discovered that Silvio's ribs were broken and he possibly had heartworm. We are still waiting for results for heartworm and other parasitic diseases. After talking it out with members of the community, we found Silvio's owners and they filled in his story. Silvio has lived in the Getsemani neighborhood for over 10 years, wandering the square and at times returning to their home. Throughout the years, he has been kicked or hurt by tourists and locals resulting in his broken ribs. He has suffered from parasite diseases, like Ehrlichia and Babesiosis, and a severe case of mange. His owners have tried to help him but cannot afford the cost of all medical treatments or medications. After meeting with his owners and discussing his safe future, they decided to surrender him to us. Silvio is in vet care in Cartagena but will be transferred to Medellin for long-term care. Silvio's case is considered long-term hospice. The veterinary staff in Medellin will be treating his illnesses and giving him the best loving environment. Please consider donating to help us help Silvio live each day more comfortably. Update on Silvio: Silvio is finally getting the attention and rest he deserves! Tu Fiel Amigo Vet is working to get his mange under control through medicated baths and oral medication. He is also being treated for tick diseases and bacteria in his blood. Silvio is has had a hard life for the past 12 years, but we aim to give him the best we can for the remainder of his life. Silvio is considered a long-term hospice case and will need months, if not years of care. |

Costeñita Costeñita was found by volunteers when they saw some boys dragging her around and laughing at her on a soccer field by her hind legs. She was crying out in pain and completely terrified. After releasing her from the ropes and taking her to medical care, we discovered her story.
Locals in Boca Chica told said that Costeñita was hit by a motorcycle 8 years ago and has not been able to use her back leg since. Children of the town like to taunt her because she cannot walk and treat her like a toy, dragging her around and hitting her. When we rescued her she was so weak from abuse and disease that she was barely able to lift her head. After initial testing, it was confirmed that she has Mycoplasma and Hepatozoon, which are tick diseases. Thankfully, they are treatable. We are waiting for results on the type of surgery Costeñita will need and if she will be able to walk again. We hope for a full recovery, but we are not sure what damage has been done to her legs, pelvis, and spine over the years. Update: Costeñita is recovering after her surgery!! When Costeñita was found, she was unable to use her back legs. After getting x-rays, it was discovered that she did not have any broken bones, but rather ACL, meniscus, and ligament tears, as well as dislocated patellas in both hind legs. While definitely painful, all there's issues can be cured with surgery and physical therapy! |

Tica Tica’s entire life was spent tied to a tree with a rope so short she barely had room to move. Not only was she subjected to being in one spot but in that spot is where she was continuously kicked, hit, and neglected.
During our spay and neuter clinic in Arroyo de Piedra, Cartagena, Colombia, three women from the community told us about a dog that was being brutally mistreated. They described to us how Tica was tied to a tree 24/7 with barely enough food or water to survive. They said the owners would go days without feeding her or giving her water and would kick her anytime she made a sound and even if she didn’t make a sound they would kick or hit her just because. Sometimes she would escape, but the owners would track her down, beat her, and tie her back to the tree. The women took some of our volunteers to the house, where we spoke to the owners. The owners said they didn't care what happened to her and if we wanted to take her that was fine. When we untied the ropes, she could barely lift her head up and seemed utterly defeated. Her preliminary treatments were in Cartagena, but she is now in Medellin at Tu Fiel Amigo Vet. This poor girl has been through the wringer and our hearts shattered while listening to what she had been through. We hope that she can recover mentally from this and we are here to shower her with love, comfort, and care. Through us, we hope she can grow to learn that not all human hands will bring pain. With your help and donations, we can do what needs to be done to help her heal both mentally and physically. Update on Tica: While Tu Fiel Amigo Vet in Medellin is taking great care of Tica, she still has a long way to go. Her skin is still raw from infection and she is not trusting of people due to her past experiences. Hopefully, she will see how much we love her and care for her, which can lead to a faster healing process. She has gotten medicated baths and oral antibiotics for her mange and skin infections. She is also being treated for parasite diseases. Send your love for a speedy recovery her way! |

SombraSombra was found in Cartagena barely able to move and missing most of her hair from mange. She was extremely underweight and suffering from Babesia, a pervasive tick disease that happens when animals eat ticks.
Sombra has been in foster care for months, trying to overcome Babesia. It can not be treated with regular antibiotics, but requires shots that can cause side effects like seizures. We are hoping that after multiply rounds of treatment, she will finally be healthy! Update on Sombra: After 6 months of treatment, she is finally Babesia free! |
