Sol
Sol was a very small and fragile puppy rescued by our Director Maureen Cattieu and her team of volunteers in La Boquilla, Cartagena in June 2019. Sol was found in an emaciated state with her ribcage showing and trembling in fear. Cattieu and her team had originally gone to the site to begin to plan and map out a future educational event along with some spay and neuter campaigns for the stray animals. However, once they came along Sol, they knew she could not be left behind. Dr. Ximena was also present on the day of the rescue and immediately preformed tests on Sol in order to ensure that she did not have anything contagious before bringing her back to the vet for her initial treatments and quarantine. Sol was terrified of people and closed her eyes out of fear when people picked her up. She soon learned though, that Cartagena Paws was there to help and that they were going to save her life. Sol spent 2-3 months with Cartagena Paws undergoing vet care and later foster, before she was able to fly home to safety.
Animal Planet actually helped in Sol's flight to safety. They had chosen her to be the International Feature in the Puppy Bowl XVI, so they actually flew down to get to film her rescue site and get to know more about Cartagena Paws. When it was time for her to fly home, they helped as flight volunteers!
Sol was adopted by an amazing Key West Local, Rafe Halpern. Rafe and his son River love their new addition to the family and think Sol is a perfect fit. Three year old River loves his new sister Sol. Likewise, they share similar hobbies like eating chicken nuggets and french fries, or snuggling up together, playing, and keeping their dad busy chasing after them!
