In September 2019, Cartagena Paws participated in Dia Mundial de Limpieza (World Clean Up Day). Cartagena Paws, along with 30+ other foundations, went to La Boquilla, a neighborhood on the outskirts of Cartagena, to do a clean up and education event.
The day began with a message of making a better world. Speakers from different foundations talked about the impact of waste to the community and the ways in which we can make changes. Cartagena Paws spoke about how our environment impacts both animals and humans, focusing on the ways in which people can help the stray population. Afterwards, volunteers and people from the community set out to pick up waste and recyclables. Volunteers from Cartagena Paws went around to clean as well, but we also took this time to talk to locals about the importance of vaccination to the health of the community.
In all, over 930 volunteers from around Cartagena collected 6,177 kilos (6.8 tons) of waste and 730 kilos (1,600 lbs) of recyclables in La Boquilla and surrounding areas.
